We give Code Black Drone a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
The Code Black drone was designed to be an ultralight, ultra-compact drone that’s sleek and stealthy. If you need something portable and beginner-friendly, this is the one for you. However, it isn’t for people who need serious power, as this product doesn’t deliver that. In terms of Code Black’s reputation, it seems to be positive, but there aren’t many people talking about this brand. It’s a relatively new company, so they don’t have a crazy amount of exposure in the drone piloting industry.
We’ll have to see if there is something that makes it a class above the rest. Let’s review the Code Black drone!

Out of all of the features of the Code Black drone, its design stands out the most. The frame is made of a sleek black plastic material, which looks modern and stealthy. Its small size can fit inside the palm of the average person’s hand, with the blade formation and attachable exoskeleton material making it distinctly ‘quadcopter’. The feet of the drone (where it makes contact with the ground) are sturdy and thoughtfully constructed. Overall, the build might have to be the best part of this product.

The Code Black drone includes an interesting remote-control device for users to operate the device. Unlike most drone controllers, this specific one is shaped like a video game controller, which makes it much more enjoyable and easier to learn. There is a small, boxy screen in the top-middle area, illustrating important peripherals such as altitude and a battery level icon.
Luckily you won’t be without a camera with the Code Black drone, as it comes with a 720p HD video camera that can also take stills at 2.0 MP. Those specs are not great for getting crisp video or breathtaking photos, but they are useful for flying safely and learning the ropes.
The biggest upset of the Code Black is its battery life. Your flights will be limited to just 7 minutes or 10 minutes, depending on the conditions. That is pretty bad compared to a lot of other options in this price range, but that may be in part because of its remarkably compact size. Recharging the Code Black’s battery will take over 30 minutes, so you’ll have to wait a while to use it again.
The Code Black drone is a great option for beginners who want to get their feet wet in drone piloting. Its intuitive flight controls, portable design, and overall performance make it easy to learn. However, the price point isn’t worth it unless you can get it for a steep discount, which occurs quite often.

Unfortunately, the low-end imaging of the Code Black isn’t up to snuff for dedicated videographers and filmmakers. Today’s standard for professional work is typically 4k UHD, but the 720p footage from this drone could be used for social media platforms that are dominated by phone users. Anyways, the stills imagery at a maximum of 2.0 MP won’t do much!
For this product, the return policy doesn’t really exist. Code Black drones state that there is a 30-day manufacturer’s guarantee. There isn’t any mention of what this entails, though. In the end, it depends on which retailer you buy it from, as you can’t buy it directly from the brand. The retailer we’ve checked out states that all sales are final, but you can purchase an optional 1- or 2-year warranty for an additional cost.
As it’s targeted at a relatively niche market, there aren’t a whole lot of user reviews. However, the few that have bought the product have given it their best word. One buyer describes that they use several extra batteries to keep their training session going and that the controls are much more stable than you’d expect. Also, there were comments that mentioned how great the tiny, minimal design is, which we totally agree with!
The Code Black drone is a good choice for people who are brand new to drone piloting and want an introduction to the hobby. It isn’t for professionals, but you can still use it for fun or upgrade to a better device once you think you’re ready. Overall, we think it can be a good fit if you’re in the market for an ultra-portable drone!
